2 questions regarding laptop computers on airlines?

Jeph J asked:

I have a few questions regarding laptop computers on airlines. First, do they have a power source available (can you plug it in or must you rely solely on your battery)? Second, is there some sort of Internet access available in flight? I haven’t ridden a plane since before the computer age!

Some planes have a “power port;” however, it’s usually in business or first class only.
