Computer buying help: Someone is trying to get rid of a 2004 Compaq Presario, should I buy it?

NestleGirl asked:

I don’t know much about computers, but from looking at it, I can tell it needs to be updated. If I have the installation discs for new Microsoft Programs, can I buy it, and someone that knows how to do these things do it for me? I don’t know much about computers, but am needing one for internet surfing, small projects etc. What is a reasonable price for the computer?
Since this person is trying to get rid of it, how much do you think he would get from it? He wanted an estimate also.

The exact model of the Compaq would be nice to tell you what a good price is. But if it’s 2004 Compaq I would say about $300.

If you don’t have a computer and can afford it get it. I **** Compaq but having a computer is better than not having one.

Reinstalling the OS (WindowsXP) is easy if you have the discs. You just put it in the CD drive and reboot.
